HOW TO PACK

Roll vs Fold

Whether packing a backpack or a suitcase, rolling your clothes is the way to go!  Typically, rolled clothes pack tighter than folded clothes.  Also wrinkles can be held to a minimum as rolled clothes can be smoothed before the roll, therefore less creases.

Extra tip for packing:  put liquids in ziplocks!  Your shampoo, conditioner, face wash.... save some headache by placing them in a ziplock so in the case that they explode from pressure, your clothes and other belongings are free from damage.  They also fit nicely in your shoes, which can save space.

WHAT TO PACK

Do you really need a hairdryer?

Some go on vacation and throw caution to the wind.... yes I leave my hairdryer at home!  A ball cap packs better than a hairdryer.  This method also means you don't need a flat iron!

However there are those times when a hairdryer is a must.  Check with your hotel.  Most hotels have hairdryers in every room.  If not, check with the front desk to see if they have ones available for check out.  This is a great option for international travel as they will have a unit compatible for their voltage levels. No converter to pack!

Also do you need a pair of jeans for every day?  Or can you use a pair twice? Does the hotel have laundry facilities? A few quarters go a long way to saving space in your luggage.

CARRY ON OR CHECK UNDER?

Essentials to take on an Airplane

We all know that taking items onto the airplane cabin can be a hassle.  Do you put it in the overhead bin or try to put it under the seat in front of you?

That depends on what you bring.  Some essentials that are packed in my airplane bag are:

identification (ID/Passport), money, a change of clothes, medications, chewing gum, phone and camera with chargers, toothbrush/toothpaste, a snack or two and lastly wear clothing that you are comfortable in and with layers.

Save space by downloading books to your smartphone.  Even better, download a movie or 2!  This is a great option if travelling with children.

As always, check with your airline for the dimensions and weight limits for all baggage.
